Backstage News On Goldberg’s WWE Retirement Match

World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg WrestleMania 36

Goldberg has announced plans to hold his retirement match in WWE in 2025.

Referring to Gunther and his showdown with the World Heavyweight Champion at WWE Bad Blood, Goldberg said, “I think we know who the subject or the victim, the frontrunner right now, we know who it is.”

Triple H, Nick Khan, and Chris Legentil have all approved the retirement match.

Goldberg’s last match was at WWE Elimination Chamber 2022, where he was defeated by Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship match.

The Wrestling Observer discussed the status of the anticipated match between Goldberg and Gunther. They confirmed that the match is definitely set to happen, though it might not take place soon, as Goldberg needs time to prepare.

When the confrontation was initially set up, the Observer noted that they were informed it wasn’t intended for WrestleMania 41. However, given the amount of time until then, WWE may not have finalized the exact timing for the match just yet.

Before Crown Jewel, Gunther sent a warning to Goldberg. Here’s what The Ring General said during his appearance on La Previa de WWE: Crown Jewel:

“I was invited out there to speak about the Crown Jewel Championship and we had a lot of legends in the house, and I met a lot of them backstage and one of the very few that I didn’t meet that I just saw was there before was Goldberg so when our eyes crossed, basically, I was like, why not break some balls a little bit?

He doesn’t seem able to take things lightly. I tried to lighten up the mood a little bit.

If push comes to shove and he thinks he wants to get back into the business and wrestle again, then, I’m happy to teach him a lesson.”
