Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving Crown Jewel 2024 and Drew McIntyre.

• WWE Crown Jewel 2024 was packed with memorable moments, including an intense Women’s Tag Team Championship match. This match, however, was a last-minute addition, taking the place of an originally planned bout between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez.

Ripley sustained an injury on the October 21st episode of RAW, where WWE confirmed that she fractured her right orbital socket following a headbutt spot. Though part of a storyline, Ripley’s injury was real, prompting WWE to announce her time off for recovery. As a result, the singles match was swapped for a multi-team Women’s Tag Team Title match.

At Crown Jewel, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill successfully defended their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against IYO SKY & Kairi Sane, Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson, and Chelsea Green & Piper Niven.

Here’s what the Wrestling Observer reported about the change:

“This match, I didn’t expect a title change and I don’t think anyone else did because it was thrown together at the last minute. This match was the replacement for the originally scheduled Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez match.”

• Drew McIntyre has been on a hiatus following his intense Hell in a Cell match against CM Punk at WWE Bad Blood on October 5. The highly praised match left both superstars with visible damage, but McIntyre’s injury was especially severe.

According to Fightful Select, sources reported that McIntyre sustained a significant laceration in the match, requiring 16 staples to close the wound. While CM Punk’s time away from the ring was pre-planned, McIntyre’s break is due to both his injury and personal reasons.

Along with recuperating physically, McIntyre is overseas spending time with family. He recently shared that he has been coping with “personal losses,” which also influenced his decision to take a break.

While his exact return date is uncertain, this downtime may provide the mental and physical rest he needs after years of grueling matches.
