WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley aka Bully Ray isn’t happy about how WWE booked Gunther vs. Goldberg for the World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday Night’s Main Event. Here’s what he said on Busted Open Radio: “The guy comes back and he gets in Gunther’s face, the segment ends, and approximately 10 minutes later, we get a graphic and the match has been made. So, Nick Aldis filled in for Adam Pearce. So we had a fill-in GM, the fill-in GM is just there because Adam Pearce needed a sick day or something. This substitute teacher allowed Goldberg to just show up and tell the World Heavyweight Champion that he was next, and all of a sudden, this match is miraculously made. Who made the match? Why did they make the match? What’s the logic behind them saying ‘yes’?
A storyline like this, to me, is insulting because it’s just ramming something down your fanbase’s throat and expecting them to consume it, just like politicians ram stuff down voters’ throats and expect them to consume it.
Did Gunther issue an open challenge? We’ve seen that in the past, we’ve seen champions on many levels issue open challenges. So if the World Champion issues an open challenge and Goldberg just happened to be in the arena visiting somebody, and Goldberg turned around and said, ‘Hit my music,’ and Goldberg’s the first one out, I can buy that. It’s still a connecting of the dots. It’s something.
You know how certain politicians get voted into office & they consistently do a bad job, but yet the people continue to vote this politician back into office? Until the WWE Universe decides that they hate this and walk away from the product, nothing will change.”
Goldberg addressed Bully Ray’s comments during an interview on The National Football Show with Dan Sileo and said the following:
“I was 176-0. I don’t have to stand in freaking line. So Bully Ray can bite me. But everybody’s got an opinion, and Bully Ray has a podcast that’s about wrestling, right? And so you’re obviously gonna chime in and give your two cents. And I love him to death, and I respect his opinion. But his opinion is like an a$$hole, and everybody’s got one. So I mean, that’s fine.
They put the title on me in WCW after being in the business for less than a year, in front of 50,000 people in Atlanta. I think they knew what they were doing. I mean, it wasn’t my decision by any stretch of the imagination.
Every single time I’ve been asked to do something, I’ve done it in this business. I haven’t come in and demanded anything. Well, not much.”
