• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (January 27, 1993) – André The Giant Passed Away

On this day in 1993, we lost Old School WWF Legend “The Eighth Wonder of the World” André The Giant (Real name: André René Roussimoff) at the age of 46 due to congestive heart failure, which was most likely a result of his gigantism / acromegaly.

André wrestled for various promotions during the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s, but is best remembered for his time in the World Wrestling Federation (fka WWWF) where he worked from 1973 to 1991.

His biggest moment came in 1987 when he “passed the torch” to Hulk Hogan in the legendary main event of WWF WrestleMania III. Hogan bodyslamming him is still referred to as “the slam heard around the world”.

In March 1993, André The Giant became the first ever inductee into the newly founded WWF Hall of Fame (now known as WWE Hall of Fame).
