On this day in 2001, the World Wrestling Federation aired an episode of their weekly TV show ‘WWF SmackDown!’.

It was broadcasted from the Molson Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and featured pre-taped matches & storyline segments on the road to the ‘WWF No Mercy 2000’ PPV.

• BREAKING NEWS: Old School Wrestling Legend Passes Away

We just received word that Old School Wrestling Legend “Dirty” Dick Slater (Real name: Richard Van Slater) passed away. He was 67 years old.

Slater wrestled for various promotions during the 70s, 80s & 90s, such as Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW), Jim Crockett Promotions (NWA) / World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Mid-South Wrestling, American Wrestling Association (AWA), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), … and more.

He also wrestled for Vince McMahon Jr.’s World Wrestling Federation in 1986 & 1987.

Here’s what long-time WCW Jobber Bobby Starr, who knows him from their time together in WCW (1992-1995), posted on his Facebook account:

“Just heard of the passing of another legend in the wrestling business. Dick Slater, was a wild man back in the day.. Condolences and Prayers to all his friends and family RIP”
