• Bret Hart Reveals Which WWE Legend Is Comparable To Him & Is In G.O.A.T Conversation
During his interview on the Johnny I Pro Show, Bret Hart spoke about John Cena and made it clear that he views Cena as an all-time great, placing him firmly in the G.O.A.T conversation. Bret framed his praise around longevity, consistency, and professionalism, arguing that Cena’s sustained presence at the top of WWE alone puts him in rare company.
Bret explained that Cena was around long enough, and at a high enough level, to earn that status. From his perspective, being considered the greatest is not just about peak years or isolated matches, but about delivering at an elite standard over an extended period. In that sense, Bret felt Cena checks every box.
He also highlighted Cena’s approach to wrestling as something that reminded him of himself. Bret described Cena as extremely serious about his craft, especially when it came to preparation and attention to detail. He spoke about watching Cena go over matches carefully, often revisiting details multiple times to make sure everything was right. Bret said this was the same mindset he carried throughout his own career, always insisting on walking through things again even when others felt it wasn’t necessary.
According to Bret, that level of professionalism is rare and often misunderstood. He suggested that Cena’s habit of over-preparing wasn’t about control or ego, but about responsibility – making sure everyone involved knew exactly what they were doing so nothing went wrong. Bret viewed that trait as a defining characteristic of elite wrestlers and a major reason Cena was able to succeed in such a demanding role for so long.
Bret also touched on how compelling a storyline involving himself and Cena could have been, especially with the national pride angle he carried for much of his career. He felt that a U.S. versus Canada dynamic with Cena would have been a natural fit and could have produced something special, had their careers overlapped differently.
The Hitman made it clear that Cena is “comparable to me” in professionalism and detail, and definitely qualifies as a modern G.O.A.T.
