On a recent edition of ‘Busted Open Radio’, Old School ECW/WWF Tag Team Legend Bubba Ray Dudley (aka Bully Ray) spoke about Gunther breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s 35-year record as the longest reigning WWF/WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time.

The former member of the Dudley Boyz then revealed that – despite becoming the longest title holder – Gunther is still only going to be No.2 on his list of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all time.

Here’s what Bubba Ray Dudley had to say:

“The real Intercontinental Championship and champion to me was Pedro Morales, and now second in my eyes is Gunther.

The only reason I say second in my eyes is because Pedro was the guy I grew up on. He set the tone, he set the standard, and he became a World Heavyweight Champion.

So yeah, I understand the amount of days as champion that Gunther is number one, but Gunther is my number two right now, only because Pedro was, always was my one.”

Pedro Morales had 2 reigns as Intercontinental Champion, first defeating Ken Patera for the title on December 8th 1980, losing it to Don Muraco on June 20, 1981, and then holding it again from November 23rd 1981 to January 22, 1983, when he lost it to Muraco again.
