CM Punk never had a cordial relationship with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and has always been very straightforward about the problems he had with The Game during his time in WWE.
In his infamous Pipebomb promo in the summer of 2011, Punk called Triple H the “doofus son-in-law who would take over WWE after Vince McMahon.” He believed that nothing would change in the company under Triple H.
During his time on the Indy circuit, Punk called Triple H the “CM Punk of WWE.” He was also using the Pepsi Plunge, an avalanche version of the Pedigree, which allegedly made Triple H unhappy.
Punk faced Triple H twice in WWE and lost both times. He was scheduled to face The Game at WrestleMania 30, but he was not happy with WWE’s booking at that time and quit the company before the biggest show of 2014.
Surprisingly, Punk had some nice things to say about Triple H at the Cauliflower Alley Club banquet in Las Vegas recently, after the AEW All In PPV. He accepted the Iron Mike Mazurki award at the event, which is the Cauliflower Alley Club’s highest honor.
Below is what Punk said:
“I’m just a punk rock kid from Chicago. I didn’t fit in anywhere. I wasn’t supposed to fit in any locker room. Gosh! I remember the first time I was in WWE. The names on that roster… JBL, Batista, Shawn Michaels was still on the road. I know because I had to tag with him and take all the bumps. That was my job and I did it lethally.
Ric Flair was still on the road. Triple H, The Undertaker, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Umaga.
I got a job with WWE and it’s because I wouldn’t be denied and then when I got there, I feel like I worked so hard that my heroes, the people I looked up to became my peers and rivals.”
Later in the speech, Punk recalled what Triple H said to him on his first day in WWE.
WWE Hall Of Famer Michael Hayes came up to Punk and said:
“CM Punk, I don’t get it.”
Triple H then came to Punk and said:
“You, I get.”
Punk, who has been fired from AEW, was backstage at RAW in Chicago earlier this year. He had a short conversation with Triple H and a couple of other talents there.
He reportedly made amends with people he had problems with in the past including Triple H and The Miz.
