On June 17, CM Punk will return to Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling and main event the debut episode of their new TV show ‘AEW Collision’ on TNT.
Punk will team up with AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR and take on ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & Juice Robinson) in a Trios Match.
After this announcement was made, Punk revealed that he’s dedicating his return to 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart.
Punk posted a photo on his Instagram story, where he wore a Bret Hart sweatshirt and wrote “For Bret”:
This isn’t the first time that Punk is paying tribute to Bret. Punk copied several sequences & finishes from Bret’s old matches and implemented them in his AEW matches to pay tribute to The Hitman.
Speaking of Punk, DX member & current AEW star Billy Gunn stood up for Pun during a recent interview with SK Wrestling, and said Punk isn’t as toxic as people say, and that AEW is making the right decision by bringing him back.
Below is what Gunn said:
“I think it’s a positive thing. I really do because he is still, no matter what goes on behind the scenes, he’s still got it.
He’s still the guy, he still has huge drawing power, and that’s only going to help us. Why would you not want a guy in here that can help?
I don’t feel he’s as toxic as everybody thinks he is, but then again, I’m an old person and I don’t really care about all that other stuff.
All I care about is what can he do for the company, what can he do for the talent in the company, and he’s still very good at that.
We all have our days where we go a little off track.
I can’t speak for anything that happened to that because everything I heard is also hearsay and I don’t speak on hearsay because I’m just not a gossiper.”
On the other hand, Eric Bischoff explained why Punk is the biggest financial flop in the history of professional wrestling (tap here to read).
