The Elite signed new multi-year deals with AEW after their contracts with the company expired last month.

There were some people who believed that Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page and The Young Bucks would leave the company they helped start after CM Punk’s return to AEW earlier this summer, but the group decided to stay.

Punk, however, ended up parting ways with AEW instead as he got fired after his fight with “Jungle Boy” backstage at All In last week, which endangered people who had nothing to do with it and even affected AEW President Tony Khan.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, it was noted that there are many people in AEW who believe Punk was trying to get out of the company after The Elite signed new deals last month.

Another theory among people in AEW is that Punk started to want out when Collision ratings settled where they did (Collision averages around 500,000 LIVE viewers every Saturday).

At the end of Collision last night, The Young Bucks (who previously weren’t allowed on Collision due to their issues with Punk) came out to save AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR when Bullet Club Gold attacked them.

After the show, Nick and Matt Jackson seemingly celebrated Punk’s release from AEW while some people in the Chicago crowd chanted Punk’s name.

Matt Jackson was seen doing a victory lap.
