CM Punk recently detailed the intense contract negotiations leading up to his shocking return at WWE Survivor Series.
Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Punk revealed that he hadn’t signed a contract before his return in front of his hometown crowd in Chicago, marking the end of his decade-long absence from WWE.
When asked if he could have left the Allstate Arena without a deal, Punk admitted, “Personally, there could have been a possibility, if there were some hard no’s in the contracts, but I think both sides were eager. Then you get the lawyers involved, and it’s a lot.”
Punk also described the behind-the-scenes experience, recalling being rushed through the building and placed in a freight elevator before being led to Triple H’s office.
“I hear them on the other side yelling, ‘clear the hallway.’ ‘Oh no. I’m not that guy now.’”
While sitting in the office as WarGames began, Punk waited for the lawyers to finalize the deal.
Eventually, Triple H reassured him, “If this gets done, we’ll wait, and when the time is right, we’ll bring you in through Gorilla.”
Once the contracts were signed, Punk made his triumphant return, stepping back into the WWE spotlight after ten years.
