• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (February 19, 1968) – Old School Wrestling Legend Passed Away

On this day in 1968, we lost Old School Wrestling Legend “The Russian Lion” George Hackenschmidt at the age of 90 due to a Sepsis.

Born in Estonia, George Hackenschmidt became one of the first big names in professional wrestling history and quite a few historians actually consider him to have been one of the best of all time.

Hackenschmidt became the first ever recognized World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion in 1905, a championship that was the official precursor of what later became the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

The famous “hack squat” exercise was actually named after him.

In 2016, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of their annual Legacy Wing inductions.

• Cody Rhodes Reacts To Val Venis’ Comments About AEW Transgender Wrestler Nyla Rose

As we have noted before, WWF Attitude Era Superstar Val Venis expressed his displeasure regarding AEW booking transgender wrestler Nyla Rose to defeat Riho to win the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Val thinks it’s not fair to the real women.

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes had the following to say regarding Val’s comments:

“I think it’s disappointing if you’re perhaps someone who grew up liking Val Venis, you know. I don’t know. He’s kinda like the Disco Inferno of WWE.

I don’t know if anyone knows who Val Venis is anymore. It’s disappointing because I don’t think he actually means the terrible things he puts in writing.

I think he’s just trying to get a booking. We’re not booking Val Venis and you’re not getting booked anywhere near us.

When you hit the ball back you’re giving him oxygen and I’m not giving Val Venis any oxygen about Nyla Rose.

Nyla Rose won the AEW Women’s Championship because she was the best woman in AEW and that’s just it. So, yeah, I think we should all just stop hitting the ball back to these people.

It’s 2020, everyone should love everybody, you know what I’m saying? In some capacity — I know it sounds super hippie of me, but it’s just how I feel today.”
