Cody Rhodes recently shared his thoughts on when he intends to step away from full-time wrestling.
Having been in the industry for nearly two decades, Rhodes has wrestled in various promotions, including ROH, AEW, and TNA Wrestling, primarily after leaving WWE in 2016.
Rhodes has had only one significant injury, a torn pectoral muscle suffered before Hell In A Cell 2022, which kept him out of action until Royal Rumble 2023.
On the Flagrant podcast, Rhodes discussed his plans for winding down his career. Now 39, he feels he can maintain peak performance until age 45.
He chose this timeline because he wants to remain physically strong for his 3-year-old daughter, explaining that he thinks a lot about staying fit and being able to lift her up and play with her.
Here’s what the Undisputed WWE Champion said:
“I’m 39 now, and I believe I can go full-time, 100%, and be my best until I’m 45. I don’t know why I’ve set that number in my mind, but I have a 3-year-old daughter, and I don’t want her to have a dad who can’t do a lot or who isn’t strong enough.
I haven’t had that problem yet; I can throw her up and play with her. I want to be the kind of dad who has the strength to pick her up and do whatever she needs.
I think about that a lot, but 45 is the age I have in mind for myself.”
This Saturday in Saudi Arabia, Rhodes will face World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in the main event of the Crown Jewel 2024 premium live event, to crown the first ever Men’s Crown Jewel Champion.
