Cody Rhodes Shows Respect To Roman Reigns After WrestleMania 40

Up next is the main event of the evening and it is a Bloodline Rules Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes made his way out first, followed by the man who has been champion for 1,316 days – Roman Reigns. Both men got special entrances for this rematch one year in the making.

Roman doesn’t want to listen to the fans and shoved the table taken out by Cody back under the ring. Roman takes out a kendo stick and begins assaulting Cody.

They are brawling in the crowd now and Roman intimidated a fan by teasing that he was going to hit him.

Roman is dominating Cody in the ring now and said the following:

“This is my company, you little b*tch.”

Cody comes back with his series of punches and a Disaster Kick. Cody went for the Cody Cutter, but Roman caught him and hit Cody with the Cross Rhodes! Roman went for the cover, but Cody kicked out. Roman went for the Superman Punch, but Cody ducked and hit Roman with the Dusty Rhodes punches and the Bionic Elbow! Cody is now clearing the announce table. However, it’s Roman who powerbombs Cody through the announce table!

Roman hits Cody with the Superman Punch in the ring and goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Roman goes for the Spear, but Cody kicks him and hits the Cody Cutter. Cody goes for the cover, but Reigns kicks out at 2. Cody hits Roman with a Spear and goes for the cover, but Reigns kicks out again!

Cody hits a Cross Rhodes and Jimmy Uso interferes and superkicks Cody. Roman hits Cody with a Superman Punch and out comes Jey Uso. Jimmy runs up the ramp to brawl with Jey. Jey speared Jimmy off the stage! Cody tries to pin a distracted Reigns, but Reigns kicks out and hits a Spear! Roman goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out! Roman is not happy with the referee.

Reigns locks in the Guillotine Chokehold, but Cody breaks it up by pushing himself and Roman out of the ring through the ropes. Cody spears Roman through the barricade at ringside! Fans are chanting “this is awesome!”.

Cody hits Roman with 2 Cross Rhodes and Solo Sikoa hits Cody with the Samoan Spike! Solo puts Roman on top of Cody and the referee counts, but Cody kicks out! Solo is not happy. Sikoa begins punching Rhodes. Solo & Roman hit their Spear-Spike combination, but Cody still kicks out!

John Cena makes his return after this! Cena hits Roman with the AA and puts Solo through the announce table with the AA. The Rock comes out now! Rock hits Cena with a Rock Bottom!

The Shield’s music hits after this and it’s just Seth Rollins, but Roman hits Seth with a Superman Punch! Rock is about to hit Cody with the Mama Rhodes weight belt and The Undertaker comes out and chokeslammed The Rock!

Roman hits Seth with a Steel Chair. Cody hits Roman with Cross Rhodes 3 times and it’s all over.

Cody Rhodes def. Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules Match to win the WWE Championship

Cody celebrates with his family and friends, including Cena, Randy Orton and CM Punk.

Rhodes said he wouldn’t have returned to WWE without Bruce Prichard and called him to the ring. Cody called Triple H to the ring too. Cody hugged both of them, and later the commentators. They lifted Cody on their shoulders.

Roman and Heyman shared an emotional moment on the stage after the loss, which wasn’t shown by WWE. You can watch it below:

During the post-show press conference, Cody showed respect to Roman. Cody said he hopes he can be half the champion Roman Reigns was.
