On this day in pro wrestling history on July 8, 2012, Austin Aries defeated Bobby Roode in the main event of TNA Destination X 2012 PPV to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. This was Aries’ first ever World Title run in TNA.
Also at this PPV, Kurt Angle faced Samoa Joe in a “Bound For Glory” series match, AJ Styles faced Christopher Daniels in a “Last Man Standing” match and Zema Ion became the new TNA X-Division Champion (after Aries gave up the Title to get a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship).

In the main event of tonight’s NXT Great American Bash, NXT North American Champion Keith Lee won the NXT Championship by defeating Adam Cole.
This ended Cole’s 403 day reign as NXT Champion.
