On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (July 6, 1985) – Great American Bash 1985

Great American Bash WCW NWA PPV

On this day in Pro Wrestling history on July 6, 1985, Jim Crockett Promotions (representing the NWA) taped ‘The Great American Bash 1985’ from the American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This was the first ever Great American Bash event ever, with it becoming a tour of events for the 2 following years, but then turned into an annual pay-per-view event from 1988 onwards. Only in 1993 & 1994 WCW didn’t have a Great American Bash PPV for whatever reason.

The original event in 1985 saw Ric Flair defend his NWA World Heavyweight Championship against evil russian Nikita Koloff, while the Dusty Rhodes vs Tully Blanchard feud culminated in a Steel Cage.

Here are the results from that night:

Dog Collar match
Jimmy Valiant defeated Paul Jones

Manny Fernandez, Sam Houston & Buzz Tyler defeated Superstar Billy Graham, The Barbarian & Abdullah the Butcher

Ron Bass vs. Buddy Landel ended in a draw

NWA National Tag Team Championship

NWA World Tag Team Championship & AWA World Tag Team Championship
Krusher Khruschev & Ivan Koloff vs. The Road Warriors ended in a double disqualification

NWA United States Championship

Steel cage match for the NWA World Television Championship
