King of the Ring KOTR WWF WWE

On this day in Pro Wrestling history on June 23rd 1996, the WWF aired ‘King of the Ring 1996′ on PPV from the MECCA Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This is the very event, where the famous “Austin 3:16 says i just whipped your a$$” saying is from, a detail that most Old Schoolers remember this PPV for.

It was originally Triple H, who was scheduled to win this King of the Ring tournament, but he was punished for the MSG Curtain Call incident, so they went with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin instead. The iconic speech after Austin won this tournament in the finals against Jake “The Snake” Roberts truly gave this PPV a moment for the ages.
