During an interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin on Broken Skull Sessions back in the day, WCW Legend Diamond Dallas Page opened up about his WWF WrestleMania 6 moment from 1990.
DDP revealed that he charged nothing for this appearance:
“Luke from The Bushwhackers, he is such a good buddy of mine and he came around the club a lot and when he saw the big Cadillac, he literally was the one who made the call to Pat Patterson. Put me on the phone with him.
The next thing I know, the pink Cadillac is getting the gig to drive Honky Tonk (Man), “The Hammer” (Greg Valentine), Jimmy Hart. Do you know Peggy Sue? Who was Peggy Sue? Sherri Martel!
So I get this call for this spot and Pat wants to know what I want for the deal. And I’m like. If you drive the car up there and fly me up, I’ll drive it. It costs nothing.
So now I’m up there… you know, around everybody. Remember, I’m as green as grass maybe. I’ve worked a total of 12 days in the business. But I’ve been on TV a lot with AWA and I get to meet (Hulk) Hogan, I get to meet all these different guys who are coming up for the car, and then I get to go out and do this moment.
Like I’m thinking this is all I’ll ever have. I’ve got to WrestleMania. Driving my own pink Cadillac… I thought this is my WrestleMania moment.”
The future WCW World Heavyweight Champion was so excited to be part of the biggest wrestling show, even if it was just a small role. It’s a great example of how sometimes, the best opportunities come from unexpected places, and how being willing to do something for free can open doors.
Diamond Dallas Page was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
