On this day in Pro Wrestling history on April 18, 2004, World Wrestling Entertainment aired ‘Backlash 2004’ LIVE on PPV from the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This was the 6th ever annual Backlash event held by the WWF/WWE from 1999 till 2009 and again since 2016.

– Jonathan Coachman defeated Tajiri

– Chris Jericho defeated Christian & Trish Stratus

– WWE Women’s Championship: Victoria (c) defeated Lita

– Hardcore Match For The Intercontinental Championship: Randy Orton (c) defeated Cactus Jack

– The Hurricane & Rosey defeated La Résistance

– Edge defeated Kane

– Triple Threat Match For The World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Benoit (c) defeated Shawn Michaels and Triple H

• Edge Makes History With His Loss At WrestleMania 37

In the main event of WrestleMania 37 (Night 2), Roman Reigns pinned both Edge and Daniel Bryan in their Triple Threat Match to retain the Universal Championship.

Edge won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2021 match to earn this Title match.

With this loss, Edge has now become the only two-time Royal Rumble winner to lose both of his World Title WrestleMania matches that were earned through the Rumble victories.

Edge won his first Royal Rumble in 2010 and went on to face Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 26 and lost.
