On a recent episode of his weekly ’83 Weeks’ podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff ended up praising SmackDown Superstar LA Knight and RAW Superstar Cody Rhodes.

Bischoff was asked who, in his opinion, should beat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship – Knight or Rhodes. Here’s what he replied:

“There’s probably multiple answers to that, there’s no wrong answer. I think about the future, LA Knight. I think LA Knight is going to end up being a massive star. He’s not yet. He’s a big star, he’s a huge star.

But he’s not as big as he’s going to be in the future. So he is a massive star in the waiting room, right? Roman Reigns certainly is the man right now. That’s where the focus is. Cody Rhodes got to be the guy (to beat Reigns).

As of right now, Cody is the future of WWE over the next 24 to 36 months, for sure. What happens after that, who knows? Injuries, other opportunities, other stars that come out of the woodwork, kind of like LA Knight has.

Who knows what the future is? But I think the plans I would imagine — again, I don’t talk to anybody in WWE about creative stuff. But I would imagine most of the planning and the conversations are all around Cody and what’s going to happen at WrestleMania.

And by that metric alone, I would say Cody.”

After The Rock returned to WWE TV on SmackDown, the plan could be for The Great One to face his real-life cousin Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 40.

However, if plans for this blockbuster mega match-up fall through for whatever reason – just like they did before WrestleMania 39 – most business insiders do expect Cody to challenge Roman again.

Cody Rhodes first wrestled for WWE from 2007 until 2016 and later, after stints in IMPACT Wrestling (2016-2017) and Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling (2019-2022), returned at WrestleMania 38 as the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins.

LA Knight wrestles professionally since 2003 and was best known for his 2015-2019 run with IMPACT Wrestling as Eli Drake, before he joined WWE in February 2021.

A lot of experts see him as a future world champion and possibly even the #1 babyface of the company at some point.
