ECW Legend On Why It’s Hard For Wrestlers Nowadays To Live A Gimmick, SmackDown Live Wrestlers Taking Dangerous Bumps

During a recent edition of “The Taz Show” podcast, ECW Legend Taz talked about wrestlers finding it hard to live a gimmick nowadays, SmackDown Live wrestlers taking dangerous bumps & more. Below are the highlights:

On why it is hard for wrestlers to live a gimmick nowadays:

“Ric lived the gimmick and that’s what I’m saying about. Like, I don’t know if that happens that much today and I think there’s a lot of reasons why it’s tough for the younger talent today to live the gimmick. Back in the day, during that generation and even my generation and even the generation after mine, there was more mystique about us as wrestlers because we weren’t living our lives on social media.

So no one knew what was going on. No one even thought of it. When they saw you that little on television, that’s what they knew. So it was a little easier to live the gimmick. And it wasn’t constant real life on social media where they saw you all the time or heard from you and tweets and Facebook and Instagram post. So that wasn’t happening there either.

Today, wrestlers do try to live the gimmick. They try. It’s hard. Because when you go on social media and you try to work people, sometimes it’s transparent because fans are a lot more intelligent to the gimmick now than they were back to today. So it’s much more difficult in this day and age to live the gimmick than it was back in the day.

Because fans are just more savvy to everything. That’s just evolution and I’m not knocking fans of back in the day. Just there wasn’t that knowledge, there wasn’t that info. So wrestlers like myself could work the gimmick and work the locker room and work everybody around them a lot easier than it is today.”

On The Usos vs. Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin featuring dangerous bumps:

“There was a knee chop block that was by Chad Gable on the outside of the ring. And it was full speed chopping of the knee. He left his feet and all the stuff it was a really intense deal. Now there is a way to take that bump, not to blow your knee out.

He knew it was coming. It’s dangerous because it’s an awkward way to bump. It’s really not even a bump. He (Uso) sold a sh*t out of it. He sold that thing great.”

Fan Proposes In Crowd During Brock Lesnar – Paul Heyman Segment On Raw, Heyman Responds

During tonight’s Universal Champion Brock Lesnar – Paul Heyman promo segment on Raw, someone proposed in the crowd and the crowd chanted “She said yes” and this caught the attention of both Lesnar & Heyman.

Heyman acknowledged what happened said: “She only said yes because she’s never been up-close to a beast like Brock Lesnar!”

Heyman then said how interrupting his promo is like stepping in the ring with his client Brock Lesnar, you got no chance!
