• New AEW Wrestler Allegedly Released Due To Past Controversial Comments

The mystery of why Trey Miguel was vanished from AEW just days after his signing has been solved, and it points to a familiar ghost in the company’s history with corporate sensors.

According to Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio, Miguel wasn’t a victim of bad booking or locker room drama – he was blocked by the “Jay Briscoe wall.”

Reports confirm that as soon as Miguel’s signing became public, controversial social media comments from 2019 and 2020 resurfaced. Despite Miguel issuing immediate apologies at the time and even receiving a public defense from his former rival David Starr, the corporate powers at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) reportedly refused to let him on their airwaves.

Here’s the controversial statement Trey Miguel made back in the day:

“Obviously you’re gay. Most people as unattractive as you become gay out of fear of rejection from the opposite $ex. So you find comfort, ability and familiarity in the same $ex and end up matching someone who’s the same as you… gay. Because there’s no other f**king options. You ugly b*tch… Truth’s a b*tch.”

The situation is a mirror image of the late Jay Briscoe, who was famously barred from AEW television due to past controversial remarks, regardless of his growth or apologies.

Alvarez revealed that Tony Khan actually tried to bring Miguel into All Elite Wrestling as far back as 2020 but was shut down then, too. It appears Khan hoped that half a decade of distance would soften the network’s stance, but the corporate memory proved to be much longer than anticipated.

While some speculate there could be other factors at play, Meltzer emphasized that Miguel’s camp is convinced this “corporate blacklisting” is the sole reason for his sudden release.

Trey issued the following statement on January 19:

“I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my time. I’ve always apologized and did my best to put a better foot forward after. I don’t preach hate and I don’t take any pride in being hateful. I’m a man of faith, I believe in forgiveness and only ever preach that. I’m a different man today.”
