After undergoing ankle surgery, former WWF Intercontinental Champion Marty Jannetty will never wrestle again.
Below is what he told veteran journalist Bill Apter:
“No. I did want to [wrestle again]. I did want to but the doctor who fixed it told me, ‘I’m going to fix you again so you can walk again without pain, please don’t jump off the top ropes. If you mess it up again I may not be able to fix it.’
I thought I’d just tell him ok, but I went through the rehab and the pain.”
Marty made his pro-wrestling debut in 1983 and his last match took place in 2018.
His last match in WWE took place on the October 19th 2009 episode of RAW, where he lost to The Miz.
Marty is most famous for his tag team run with 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. When they broke up, Shawn went on to become a main event superstar and eventually one of the GOATs, while Jannetty stayed in the mid-card and was eventually gone from the WWF.
Nowadays, Jannetty is known for his weird and controversial Facebook posts.
Marty’s troubled life will be featured in season 4 of Dark Side Of The Ring, which will come out this month.
According to the Wrestling Observer, the episode on Marty is going to be insane:
“Out of all the episodes I heard about, I heard the most about Marty Jannetty. I heard that episode might be insane, and Marty Jannetty is completely insane, so you know if people followed Marty Jannetty, there will probably be a lot of insanity on that show.”
