• Former World Champion Says His Loyalty To NWA Cost Him An Opportunity In AEW

Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis (Magnus in TNA) was interviewed by Wrestling Inc and revealed that his loyalty to the National Wrestling Alliance over the years cost him the opportunity of signing with Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling and making a name for himself over there.

Here’s what Aldis said:

“Well, I thought that it was well known at this point that I had talked to AEW CEO Tony Khan very early on, and there’s a lot more to it than people know.

Essentially, I wanted to go, but I also wanted to wait until I had got the NWA to a point where I felt like they could function effectively. And by the time that came around, again, the relationship between Tony and Billy had changed.

And I probably should have reached out sooner and had my own direct communication, instead of trusting what was being told to me about what was potentially coming up down the road. I’ll just say that.”

A few days earlier, he took to Instagram and called Billy Corgan’s version of the NWA “the most toxic brand in pro wrestling”.

Here’s what Nick posted:

“I hope now you see why it was important to me to let you know that I had given my notice to the NWA BEFORE this PPV. What was once a promising endeavour that I turned down bigger opportunities to take the lead on, has become the most toxic brand in pro wrestling.

Thank you all for the support.”

Nick Aldis first appeared in Dixie Carter’s Total Nonstop Action! (TNA) in 2008 as Brutus Magnus and later went just by ‘Magnus’, even managing to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in December 2013.

Magnus was released in June 2015 and joined Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling (GFW) the next day, where he eventually became the inaugural GFW Global Champion in October 2015.

In September 2017, Aldis joined the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), that had been purchased by Billy Corgan a few months earlier, and ended up becoming the longest reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion of the modern era, when he held the title from October 21st 2018 until August 29th 2021 (after already holding the belt from 2017 till 2018).
