WALTER joined WWE NXT UK in 2019 and ended up holding the NXT United Kingdom Championship for 870 days, thus making him by far the longest title holder in the (now defunct) championship’s legacy.
In January 2022, he was renamed Gunther and eventually debuted on the WWE main roster (SmackDown) in April, before winning the Intercontinental Championship in June 2022.
During a recent interview with SK Wrestling, the Austrian Heavyweight was asked if he wants to return to his original name, if possible.
Here’s what Gunther answered:
“No. I think the progression and how everything happened was very good for me and for my career.
We’ll see what happens in the next years. There’s still some room in my career to fill.
That’s (getting his old WALTER name back) nothing I strive for at the moment.”
He then spoke about his IMPERIUM buddies Giovanni Vinci & Ludwig Kaiser:
“I guess, how things go, especially us in Imperium, everybody in there wants to be the absolute elite and wants to be at the absolute top, and sometimes when you fail to deliver that, there are consequences for that and it’s on you to make up again for that situation. So far this hasn’t happened.”
