Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.
• Rey Mysterio has been sidelined due to a knee injury since November.
He lost the United States Championship to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel and was written off SmackDown when attacked by Santos Escobar, who turned heel believing Mysterio sided with Carlito.
The Wrestling Observer provided the following update on the WWE Hall of Famer’s return:
“Mysterio’s return now looks to be in a few weeks. He was hoping for late January but is pretty close to being ready to return.”
• The main event of WrestleMania 40 – Night 2 is going to be Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
According to the Wrestling Observer, The Rock & WWE Champion Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins is going to be the main event of Night 1.
Here’s what they reported about Rock’s heel turn:
“There is said to be far more behind the scenes that hasn’t come out but given the timing can’t be talked about now. But [The Rock] over the weekend said it was best to be out of the Reigns match, put Cody in, which by this point everyone conceded by then.
It was [Rock] who then pitched the heel turn and he did pitch the idea of the Reigns & Rock vs. Rhodes & Rollins match for Night 1. So that was his idea.”
