• “He gave me his blessing” – William Regal On Vince McMahon Giving Him Permission To Use Name In AEW

‘Sir’ William Regal (fka Lord Steven Regal in WCW) was released from WWE after more than 21 years with the company, when they let him go on January 5th 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic related budget cuts.

The former WWF Intercontinental Champion then signed with Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling in March 2022.

During a virtual autograph signing at the K&S WrestleFest event, Regal revealed that Vince McMahon himself gave him his blessing to use the ‘William Regal’ name on AEW TV, which otherwise – despite legally owning the name – he wouldn’t have done.

Here’s what the 2008 King of the Ring said:

“I own William Regal but if Mr. McMahon asked me not to use it, I wouldn’t use it. I’d be just Steven Regal. He gave me his blessing. No problems with me and Mr. McMahon at all.”

Regal is reportedly done with AEW and will now return to WWE.
