Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.
• Buddy Matthews appears to be staying with All Elite Wrestling for the foreseeable future. According to WrestlePurists, Matthews has signed a new contract with AEW, although the specifics of when he signed or the length of the deal are not disclosed.
Matthews joined AEW in February 2022, becoming a member of the House of Black faction alongside Malakai Black and Brody King. His future with the company seemed uncertain later that year due to rumors of his interest in returning to WWE. However, he has continued with AEW and even became an AEW World Trios Champion with House of Black, holding the title for 175 days in 2023.
Currently, Matthews is off AEW television, having been written out of storylines due to a backstage attack from The Patriarchy.
This storyline exit allowed him to take time off for his marriage to WWE star Rhea Ripley. The date of Matthews’ return to AEW programming is not yet known, and in his absence, Malakai Black and Brody King are being featured as a tag team.

• CM Punk, who returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, is reportedly looking to restructure his contract with the company, expressing a desire to stay with WWE “forever”.
Here’s what WrestlePurists reported:
“I believe [his deal is for 3 years]. I can tell you right now that he is in the process of trying to get his deal restructured from a money and years standpoint.
Punk’s legitimate stance right now is if all goes well he will never leave. That’s his legitimate standpoint. He wants to be here forever is the actual word he used.
Basically, he wants this to work out, he wants to get paid, and then he wants, when it’s time to slow it down, to slow it down and just run NXT.”
Since his return, Punk suffered a torn triceps during his first televised match back at the Royal Rumble but has remained active on WWE programming. He has been involved in a feud with Drew McIntyre, frequently interfering in McIntyre’s pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship.
Punk is set to make his in-ring return at SummerSlam, facing McIntyre in a singles match with Seth Rollins serving as the special guest referee.
