Below are a couple of top WWE, AEW & NJPW news stories of the day.
• At the NJPW Resurgence 2023 pay-per-view, Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks in WWE) failed to win the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.
She lost to AEW wrestler Willow Nightingale and broke her ankle during this match.
During an interview on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mercedes revealed that this was a career-threatening injury:
“I’ve been working so hard to get back to this place that I love because little do people know, I was told this is a career-ending injury. I screamed at my doctor and surgeon and said, ‘No it’s not’.
I’m going to come back really soon and I’m going to have the greatest time and the greatest matches, and the greatest career that I’ve had yet.”
Mercedes is rumored to make her official AEW debut on next week’s Dynamite: Big Business special episode in Boston.
New Video: Revealing Video Of WWE Star Asuka:
• The start of Roman Reigns’ Bloodline storyline in 2020 changed things for WWE, and resulted in the wrestling business having a “boom”.
However, some fans are comparing the current boom period to that of the Attitude Era (December 1997 – April 2001), a time period where WWF put WCW out of business and drew record high numbers, and claiming that the current era is better.
2-Time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T disagrees. Here’s what he said on his podcast:
“To me though, the Attitude Era was the best era I think in wrestling of all time. But I do think the WWE right now is trying to get back to that just a little bit, of course with The Bloodline storyline, and of course now with The Rock coming back.”
