• “If we’ve got somebody out there like a Tony Khan that’s throwing money around, put me on the list” – HOFer Wants Goldberg To Join AEW
As we reported recently, Goldberg’s contract with WWE has expired and he is currently a Free Agent.
Goldberg noted in an interview earlier this month that WWE owes him a retirement match.
If WWE doesn’t give Goldberg a retirement match, AEW might.
During an interview with The Bet Las Vegas & The Sporting Tribune, AEW President Tony Khan was asked if he’d be open to bringing the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion to All Elite Wrestling.
Below is what Khan said:
“I have a lot of respect for Bill. I think Bill Goldberg is a great professional athlete and has had a great career in pro wrestling. He is a very nice person.
I think he’s a household name in pro wrestling. And certainly, that’s interesting to hear that Bill is a free agent. That’s something to follow.
He’s one of the biggest names in wrestling and certainly will be something else to keep an eye on for us. We have so many great wrestlers in AEW and so many exciting things happening in AEW week-to-week that it’s always an exciting time.
Bill is an exceptionally exciting name and one of the biggest names in the sport. Certainly, it’s a big thing for us to pay attention to, so I would take notice of that.”
On his Hall Of Fame podcast, WCW Legend Booker T addressed this situation and said the following:
“If Goldberg’s contract [is expired] and he’s a free agent now, he can do whatever he wants.
If Tony Khan wants to call him and offer him a big enough check for him to come in there and do something relatively small where he’s not gonna put himself in harm’s way, why not go pick it up? Why not? It’s just the name of the game.
That’s been the way the boys have approached a situation like that since day one.
If we’ve got somebody out there like a Tony Khan that’s throwing money/checks around, put me on the list, let me go pick up one. That’s the way the business has always been.”
