Jim Ross recently addressed the possibility of AEW Dynamite expanding to three hours following the company’s new media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The deal, valued at $185 million over three years with an option for a fourth, has opened discussions about potential changes to AEW’s programming.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross praised AEW’s growth and the work of Tony Khan in securing the deal.
He emphasized the importance of AEW as an alternative to WWE, offering wrestlers steady jobs and lighter travel schedules, which he believes enhances the talent’s quality of life.
Ross said, “Yeah, I think so (AEW’s new TV deal is great for the wrestling business) because, you know, with the advent and the development of AEW, it gives talent an option. Everybody can’t work in WWE. Everybody can’t make a living doing just the indies. So, I think AEW’s a good alternative without question… Tony (Khan) did a great job of cutting that deal and a lot of talents should feel very relieved that it’s done and they can continue to earn a good living in AEW and not be traveling all the time.”
Regarding the possibility of Dynamite or Collision extending to three hours, Ross noted he wouldn’t be surprised, saying it could be beneficial for showcasing more talent.
“Not totally (would I be surprised if Dynamite or Collision became a three-hour show). I totally wouldn’t be just shocked. I think it’d be Dynamite; would be the first preference… it might be a good idea… you sure get a lot more wrestling on it and it gets more talent exposed which is not a bad thing.”
As AEW continues to grow, the expansion of its shows may provide more opportunities for talent while strengthening its presence in the wrestling world.
