Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving CM Punk and Brock Lesnar.
• Brock Lesnar was last seen on WWE programming over one year ago at SummerSlam 2023, where he lost to Cody Rhodes.
He was scheduled to return to WWE TV this year for the Men’s Royal Rumble match, the Elimination Chamber PLE (where he was scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio) and WrestleMania 40 (where he was scheduled to face Gunther). However, plans for him were canceled when he was indirectly mentioned in the Vince McMahon lawsuit.
During an interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena was asked about Lesnar. Cena went on to praise his former rival.
Here’s what Cena said:
“Brock is one of the most gifted, hardest-working, perseverant, stubborn sons of b*tches I’ve ever met. But I honestly think, physically, he could do whatever he puts his mind to right.
It’s also because he’s 6’4, 300 plus. So it was a natural transition. I think Brock is a physical anomaly, and I’m glad he found his home with WWE because he’s fantastic, but I think he could do whatever he really wanted to.”

• CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 and immediately began a feud with Seth Rollins.
According to Triple H himself (during the WrestleMania XL documentary), Punk was scheduled to face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. However, that match didn’t happen because of Punk’s triceps injury.
Tension began between Rollins and Punk once again at SummerSlam 2024, when Rollins became the special guest referee for Punk’s match against Drew McIntyre. Punk even hit Rollins with a GTS during the match.
On RAW after SummerSlam, Rollins came out to fight with Punk, but got taken out by “Big” Bronson Reed.
This attack angle was done to write Rollins off TV, so he could heal from his injuries and also in order to postpone his feud with Punk, as Punk is still feuding with McIntyre.
According to WRKD Wrestling, WWE is now planning to have CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41.
