Current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns faced a lot of backlash in the early years of his mega push as the Face of WWE, as WWE tried to push him as John Cena 2.0, instead of the badass character he was in The Shield.
While he was still the #1 merch seller under his “Big Dog” character, he wasn’t receiving a babyface reaction from the fans at the shows (similar to what John Cena was for many years).
Reigns taking time off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic turned out to be a miracle for WWE, as he returned with a completely new heel character of “The Tribal Chief”, which won over many fans.
He went on to win the Universal Championship and then the WWE Championship, while being part of The Bloodline storyline, which has been the hottest storyline in pro wrestling since the fall of 2020.
Reigns’ old rival, John Cena, who previously did not think that The Tribal Chief was better than him, has admitted that Reigns is the greatest of all time.
WWE gave the “Greatest Of All Time” title to Cena when he returned to the company last week, but he thinks Reigns is deserving of it, as Cena said the following about Reigns in an interview with SK Wrestling.
“In my perspective, I think Roman Reigns is the greatest of all time.”
Reigns and Cena have battled in the ring twice on PPVs. Their first encounter was at No Mercy 2017 and their last encounter was at SummerSlam 2021. Reigns came out on top both the times.
