On a recent episode of his weekly ‘Kliq This’ podcast, Old School WWF/WCW Legend Kevin Nash stated that former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega is lucky he’s not paralyzed.
Nash was referring to the dangerous moves & high spots Omega and his opponent Will Ospreay performed at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 pay-per-view, with one of them being the Tiger Driver, where Ospreay dropped Omega on his head.
Ospreay went on to defeat Omega to win the (NJPW) IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
Here’s what Big Daddy Cool had to say:
“The stars aligned right for Kenny (Omega) because he didn’t get paralyzed.
There’s a lot of luck in what we do.
I’m just not going to take all the assets that I’ve gathered in the last 30 years and go to the roulette wheel and put it on double green zero, and give it a spin.”
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Omega addressed the criticism and said the following:
“There are a lot of people criticizing who do not have my best interests at heart. They just want to put a dark mark on that match, which is a performance I’m extremely proud of. And performances like that will be few and far between as I get older and older.
Don’t tell me not to wrestle the way I know how to wrestle. Is there a risk? Was there a risk when Mike Tyson was fighting within inches of space between another championship-level boxer throwing power punches? Of course. But Tyson was confident in his abilities, and he knew he was the best.
So don’t tell Mike Tyson how to box, and don’t tell Tyson Smith how to wrestle. You aren’t even close to being qualified. Just shut the f**k up.”
