On Friday morning, PWN reported that Kevin Owens is dealing with an injury and his WrestleMania 41 match with Randy Orton is in jeopardy. A few hours later, kerrmit125 reported that Owens needs surgery and will be away for a while, which meant he wasn’t going to work WrestleMania.

During an interview on My Mom’s Basement podcast before SmackDown, Owens had the following to say about his injury news getting leaked:

“Yeah, it really annoys me actually. I woke up to seeing that it was already leaked. And I really, it really upsets me especially because I know that whoever leaked it is some office employee that shouldn’t know this sh*t in the first place.

I told people this is gonna leak. They’re like, ‘no, no, we’re keeping a tight knit.’ But then yesterday, obviously some departments have to find out for some reasons.

And now someone who shouldn’t know this stuff found out and it went where it shouldn’t.

Now, they took away my right to tell people, because now everybody knows already.”

During this podcast interview, Robbie Fox also asked Kevin Owens the following question:

“Do you think anything from the last two PLE matches you had could have worsened it? I mean, you took some of the most insane bumps I’ve ever seen in both of those matches.”

Owens replied:

“So this is the funny part, right? I know that some of my detractors and there’s plenty out there will say, see, this is why I shouldn’t do this stuff. This is why this, this is why that. But I am telling you. It happened in a regular match, no hardcore things, nothing.

Yeah, there were two very simple things that I’ve done a million times. And then I had the other, you know, ultimately probably shouldn’t have had those matches considering all the time, but we didn’t know. Yeah.

But in those matches, as crazy as they were, at no time did I feel like my neck… like I didn’t land on my head. I didn’t get hurt. Like, I don’t remember anything of those matches.. Oh, my neck… you know what I mean?”

Owens revealed that one of his matches in January caused major neck issues:

“I felt great. But then in January, I had a match. And in the match, two things happened that really jarred my neck. That’s when the issue started. So I knew there was something. And then we ended up doing an MRI this week and found out that, yeah, it’s serious.

So I think that match in January is what did it because I had an MRI a month before that and everything was fine.”

Kevin Owens had the following two matches in January:

SmackDown (January 17) – Kevin Owens def. Rey Mysterio

SmackDown (January 24) – Kevin Owens def. Jimmy Uso
