In recent weeks, The Rock has adopted the moniker of ‘The Final Boss’, a move that has stirred controversy within the wrestling community.

While this nickname has been utilized to add depth to his ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes and to bolster support for The Bloodline faction, it has also raised concerns of gimmick infringement from one WWE Hall of Famer.

The ‘Final Boss’ title has a rich history in the world of professional wrestling, having been embraced by multiple wrestlers such as Meiko Satomura, Ryan Davidson, and even 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T at one point.

Booker T recently addressed the issue alongside his podcast co-host Brad Gilmore, expressing reservations about Rock’s use of the moniker.

Gilmore pointed out the potential infringement, stating, “Need to call gimmick infringement. You know what I mean for our guy, Ryan Davidson…”.

Booker T, acknowledging his own past use of the title, emphasized the importance of seeking permission before adopting such a persona.

Davidson, who previously worked for Impact Wrestling before joining Booker’s ‘Reality of Wrestling’ promotion, where he held the ROW Heavyweight Championship, was also cited in the discussion.

Booker T hinted at potential legal action, suggesting that Rock’s position on the board of TKO might be influencing his decision to use the ‘Final Boss’ persona without proper authorization:

“You know, Rock, though, he feels like, you know, since he on the board, he could do what he wants. But we gonna have to check his a$$ and you know, lawsuit might be coming.”

The controversy surrounding Rock’s adoption of the ‘Final Boss’ moniker raises questions about intellectual property rights in the wrestling industry and the responsibilities of wrestlers in respecting established gimmicks.

As the debate continues to unfold, it’s safe to say that no legal action will be taken against The Great One, especially not by Booker T, who works for WWE.
