Hulk Hogan has dominated this week’s wrestling news stories after what happened on this week’s RAW.
WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry spoke to TMZ about the Netflix premiere of Monday Night RAW, offering high praise for the event’s presentation and reflecting on some of the evening’s controversies.
Henry lauded the upgrades in WWE’s TV production, calling the premiere one of the most impressive televised shows he’s seen since WrestleMania. “Outside of the PLEs, this was probably the best show I’ve seen on TV,” Henry said.
However, the conversation turned serious when addressing the overwhelmingly negative crowd reaction Hulk Hogan received during the broadcast. Henry acknowledged Hogan’s legendary status in wrestling but was critical of the WWE icon’s lack of effort in addressing and rectifying controversial remarks from his past.
“Right now, with the social climate and the things that he’s said and done and the lack of effort to try to fix it, people are gonna come down on him,” Henry explained.
“I never had an issue with him before I heard all of the stuff. Even then, I believe they’ve given him second chances. Anybody that knows me knows that I’m a fix-it person. I’m not gonna dwell on the negative. I’m not gonna talk about the past. We’re going forward.
He never wanted to go forward and fix it. That’s what happens when you think that everything is gonna go away. It’s not gonna go away.”
When asked if he had personally discussed the issue with Hogan, Henry revealed that he had offered a path toward redemption, but Hogan declined.
“He thinks it’s gonna go away. That it’s not gonna be that dark cloud over his career. I offered to say, ‘Hey, let’s do a tour of the black colleges and law schools and explain what happened.’ He didn’t want to do that.”
Henry’s comments highlight the enduring complexity surrounding Hogan’s legacy, as well as the ongoing challenge of reconciling his historic contributions to wrestling with the fallout from his controversial remarks.
