On the June 21st episode of AEW Dynamite, Jeff Hardy and his brother Matt Hardy lost to The Gunns, as Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & Juice Robinson) helped The Gunns win.

After the match, The Gunns, Jay & Juice beat down The Hardys, until CM Punk, Ricky Starks & AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR made the save.

According to Fightful Select, this beatdown angle was done to write Jeff off TV, as he isn’t allowed in Canada due to his previous arrests. A lot of AEW’s upcoming shows will take place in Canada. The recent AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door PPV also took place in Canada. This led to AEW President Tony Khan making the decision to write Jeff off TV.

On his podcast, Matt Hardy ended up giving a storyline reason for Jeff’s absence:

“The roll of coins, it dislocated his jaw. They thought it might have been broken, but it was dislocated, so it’s only looking like a couple of weeks. So, yeah. It is what it is. It’s pro wrestling. It’s not ballet, as they say.”

Matt recently said the following about Jeff’s sobriety:

“Jeff is just so nice of a guy where it is hard for him to say no, you know, because he is very much a people pleaser and I think part of his journey to sobriety over the last year, he has probably learned a lot and he has put his foot down some in terms of being a people pleaser, much like he doesn’t wrestle on the indy scene right now.

He’s open to doing signings and cons and stuff like that, but he only wants to do two a month. He’s really put his foot down with that, and I respect that, and I’m cool with that.”
