Below are a couple of top news stories of the day, involving Matt Riddle and Sabu.
• During his time in WWE, Matt Riddle had real-life heat with multiple wrestlers (Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, Seth Rollins…), as he talked a lot of trash on social media.
On The Kurt Angle Show, Riddle explained why that was the case:
“I think it’s because I came from the world of Mixed Martial Arts. Even if you hear what fighters say to each other to get ticket sales, it’s ruthless. Even if you heard like, you know, Dillon Danis is talking to Logan Paul for their boxing match, he’s bringing a girl, this, that and the other thing.
The fight game is ruthless, and honestly, I feel like I’m not that ruthless. I’ll talk some trash here and there.
I did, and in professional wrestling, unfortunately, you know, it’s confusing to me because I would think we do what we do, it’s kind of a work, that people would be more flexible with it, but instead, they take stuff way more personal, and every time I open my mouth, somebody takes something personal.”
• Former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Sabu is set to retire in 2024 and his final opponent is scheduled to be fellow ECW Legend & former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam.
During an interview on “Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw”, Sabu revealed what RVD wants their match to be:
“I’m hopefully setting up for my final match. I want to do a final match maybe in July or later. It’s probably going to be against (Rob) Van Dam. I heard Van Dam say something that he wanted to have a barbed wire match for my last match.
I said I would rather have a regular match. I want to have one of my better matches. The barbed wire match is a gimmick. The gimmick is my final match. That’s the gimmick.”
