3-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart was in headlines all over the weekend for a string of blunt comments made during his appearance on the Johnny I Pro Show.
Hart took aim at several aspects of modern wrestling, calling today’s style “too fake.” He also slammed Sheamus’ punches as an embarrassment and labeled Hulk Hogan and Jake “The Snake” Roberts “two of the biggest pieces of sh*t in wrestling.”
He went on to describe Ric Flair’s “ball shot” as a “stupid move”, once again blasted Goldberg as unprofessional, and even alleged that former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were sleeping with each other. Hart also added that he doesn’t know who MJF is, admitting he barely watches wrestling today.

During the same interview, Bret Hart spoke glowingly about Rey Mysterio, offering some of the highest praise he has ever given to a fellow performer. When asked about wrestlers he wishes he could have worked with, Bret immediately brought up Rey, calling him not just one of his favorites, but possibly the best to ever step into a ring.
Bret made it clear how highly he regards Mysterio’s talent, athleticism, and wrestling intelligence. He told the audience: “Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest wrestlers, maybe the greatest wrestler of all time.”
He continued praising Rey’s uniqueness, saying that no one can match what Mysterio brings to the craft: “Nobody can lace Rey Mysterio’s shoes up.”
Throughout the interview, Bret repeatedly emphasized Rey’s combination of athletic ability and ring psychology, describing him as a complete performer: “He was such a great wrestler and a great athlete and a great… he was just so good and such a smart wrestler and so amazing.”
Bret then discussed his own desire to wrestle Rey, saying he often asked WCW management to give him that match. He believed their styles could have produced something special, especially if he had been younger and fully capable of matching Rey’s pace and high-flying intensity: “I would love to have wrestled Rey Mysterio. When I was in my early 20s or maybe late 20s, I would love to have wrestled Rey Mysterio.”
Even later in his career, Bret still pushed for the opportunity. He recalled repeatedly telling Eric Bischoff and WCW management: “I used to beg guys like Eric Bischoff, like, ‘Please put me with Rey Mysterio or somebody. Put me with anybody.’”
Bret went a step further by saying he wished he could have showcased a side of his wrestling repertoire that fans never got to see – a match that allowed him to fully embrace the Lucha Libre style. In describing what that unrealized matchup could have been, Bret said:
“I would love to have really gone overboard with Rey Mysterio… just have a match that I’ve never had before, with all kinds of fancy moves and stuff that guys like Rey and the Mexican wrestlers do.”
He even imagined how fans might remember such a classic today: “I would just love to have had one of those in my portfolio where it’s like, ‘Oh, you want to watch a high-flying match? Here, watch me and Rey Mysterio back in 1995.’”
