AEW is expected to see more departures in March due to an overcrowded roster, according to the Wrestling Observer.
Following Leyla Hirsch’s departure, the Observer noted that additional exits are likely, whether through releases or expiring deals not being renewed.
They emphasized that AEW has “way too many people under contract” and Hirsch “will not be the last” to leave in the next 30 days.
UPDATE: Rey Fenix is done with AEW, as his name has been removed from the company’s official roster page on their website. This follows criticism of Tony Khan not granting Fenix his release.
PWInsider went on to report that Fenix is a free agent now, as he’s been released from All Elite Wrestling.
According to Chris Featherstone, Tony Khan was “heavily advised” to resolve the situation with Fenix.
The Wrestling Observer recently reported that WWE has already started making plans for Fenix. He is expected to reunite with Penta as the Lucha Bros in WWE.
WrestleVotes added the following after the news of Rey’s release broke:
“Spoke with a WWE source regarding the Rey Fenix news making the rounds. With him being free and clear, the expectation backstage is that he joins WWE sooner rather than later. Source added they wouldn’t be surprised if Fenix ends up on the WrestleMania 41 card but noted there’s no exact timeline in place.”
So far, the following matches have been officially announced for WrestleMania 41:
– Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. John Cena
– World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Jey Uso
– WWE Women’s Championship Match: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Charlotte Flair
– Women’s World Championship Match: IYO SKY (c) vs. Bianca Belair
