Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Buff Bagwell, Johnny Gargano & Maven.
• WCW Veteran Buff Bagwell wasn’t initially convinced about a young Johnny Gargano’s potential. Johnny started wrestling at his father’s pizza shop, where his dad would organize wrestling events.
Gargano was 17 when he shared the card with Bagwell at one of these events. Reflecting on this, Gargano revealed the following story on Iron-On With Gregory Iron.
“That’s the famous time where my dad asked Buff Bagwell if my son was going to make it. Buff Bagwell said ‘no’. He said, ‘What do you think, Buff, you think my son has got it?’ Buff was like, ‘No. He doesn’t’.
He’s since apologized. Well, his Twitter account apologized. Not sure if he actually did it, but the person that ran his Twitter did.”

• On his YouTube channel, Maven shared how his peak earning potential on the indy scene (after his WWE release in 2005) decreased over the years before he found success with his YouTube channel.
Here’s what the inaugural Tough Enough winner said:
“When I left the WWE in 2005, I was at a peak level of earning potential for the indies, for the independents. I know as soon as people leave the WWE, that’s when their potential is at its highest.
Me personally, I could ask for as much as $1,000 to $2,000 for a match the moment I left, but that’s because I still had name value. I had name recognition.
As more days click off the calendar that remove you from being on WWE television, your name value goes down the sh*tter, the less money you can make over time.
Before the YouTube channel started, my name value, my name recognition, might have been worth maybe around $300-$500. It depends on the show, who is running the show, and how good of a booker they are.”
