Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving Netflix, WrestleMania 40 and more.

• Fans have noticed the presence of “This is Awesome” chants during certain segments of WrestleMania 40 on Netflix, leading to speculation that they were artificially inserted. Fightful Select reached out to sources at Netflix for clarification on the matter.

Netflix representatives explained that the chants were not added to enhance the show’s atmosphere, but rather to replace existing expletive chants from the live audience.

According to their sources, the “This is Awesome” audio was used specifically to cover up language deemed unsuitable for their platform.

In essence, Netflix’s decision to include the “This is Awesome” chants was a matter of content moderation, aiming to provide a cleaner viewing experience for their subscribers by replacing explicit language.

• In an interview with Barstool Sports, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes discussed which angle he regrets from his career. The storyline in question took place during Rhodes’ tenure in AEW – a run which was a mixture of highs and lows for The American Nightmare.

In the run up to Double Or Nothing 2021, Rhodes was feuding with Anthony Ogogo, but AEW had made the pair’s rivalry about the two competitors’ nations with Rhodes representing USA and Ogogo representing the UK.

This led to Cody cutting a patriotic promo on the May 12, 2021 edition of Dynamite. Rhodes spoke about cultural values and the gifts and privileges he has received as an American and how they shouldn’t be taken for granted.

The promo was criticised almost instantly by the media and fans and Rhodes was accused of being tone deaf as his promo was cut during a particularly sensitive time for American politics. Rhodes revealed he regrets “almost everything” about his feud with Ogogo but defends his now controversial promo stating that the content and intentions were good, but he understands why he was called tone deaf.

Here’s what Cody said:

“I thought the content was good and I thought the intentions were good. However, a white guy talking about race relations, who has an American flag tattoo on his neck, I can see why people would use the terms ‘tone deaf’ when it came to that.”
