Is Dragon Lee really the new Rey Mysterio like he claims to be?

Dragon Lee signed with WWE at the end of last year, and had been a part of NXT under Shawn Michaels throughout 2023.

He recently made some main roster appearances in which he was able to display his outstanding in-ring skills.

He had his debut match on the main roster for the NXT North American Championship against “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio two weeks ago on RAW, which he lost. He got a big win over former United States Champion Austin Theory on this past Friday’s episode of SmackDown.

The Wrestling Observer reported that Lee impressed WWE officials in his feud with Dominik Mysterio and was going to make the transition to the main roster soon.

It looks like that is official now, as Lee is now listed as a SmackDown Superstar on the roster page on WWE’s website.

NXT Wrestler Dragon Lee Moved To SmackDown

Lee sent out the following tweet shortly after he was moved to the SmackDown roster:

When he signed with WWE, Dragon Lee said he’s going to become the “new Rey Mysterio in WWE”. Below is what the 28-year-old wrestler said:

“I think I can become the new Rey Mysterio in WWE. I just need the opportunity. [Finn Balor] told me, ‘Would you like to be in WWE?’ (laughs). I said, ‘Yeah, sure. Why not?’ It was something special for me. It’s my challenge to learn more about promos.

You will never finish learning in pro wrestling. But every time you wrestle, you learn. But about promos, it’s something new for me. I would like to learn something new, how to become not just a wrestler – an artist.”
