• New WWE NXT UK Champion Crowned After Title Was Vacated (Spoiler)
At NXT TakeOver 36 in August 2021, Ilja Dragunov defeated WALTER (now known as Gunther, who is the Intercontinental Champion on WWE SmackDown) to win the NXT UK Championship.
This ended WALTER’s 870-day reign as the champion.
Ilja went on to hold the Title for over 300 days, but he’s no longer the champion.
At yesterday’s NXT UK tapings, Ilja vacated the Title due to an injury.
Inside The Ropes reported the following about this situation:
“Although details on the situation remain thin on the ground, the star appeared in a protective boot when he addressed the crowd.
The exact nature of the injury remains unclear.”
At today’s NXT UK tapings, Tyler Bate defeated Trent Seven to win the vacant NXT UK Championship.
This is Tyler’s second run with the Title. He was the inaugural champion as well.
