• Old School Wrestling Veteran Passes Away

We just received word that Old School Wrestling Veteran “The Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan passed away yesterday.

He was 87 years old. He was admitted to a British Columbia hospital back in August and passed away over there.

The Cauliflower Alley Club also confirmed his passing on Twitter:

He wrestled for several territories in Canada and the United States during the 40s, 50s, 60s & 70s, before he retired in 1980.

In his final match, he teamed up with Andre the Giant and Roddy Piper to defeat The Sheepherders (The Bushwhackers in WWF) and Buddy Rose.

Standing at 6’6 and weighing over 300 lbs, Jonathan was a former 2 time NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion, a former 2 time NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion and a former NWA Canadian Tag Team Champion.

In 1973 and 1974, he also wrestled for Vince McMahon Sr.’s World Wide Wrestling Federation, which a few years later was renamed to ‘World Wrestling Federation’.

He was inducted into multiple Hall of Fames, including Stampede Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.

REST IN PEACE.
