On This Day In Pro Wrestling History – April 12, 1987

On this day in Pro Wrestling history in 1987, Mike Von Erich committed suicide. He was only 23 years old. He was the son of longtime Texas wrestler and wrestling promoter Fritz Von Erich and a member of the famous Von Erich family.

Mike made his pro-wrestling debut in 1983 in WCCW and defeated Skander Akbar. Mike died when he intentionally overdosed himself with Placidyl & Alcohol. He was found dead four days later.

During his career, he won the NWA American Heavyweight Title, NWA World Six-Man Tag Team Championship 4 times, and the WCCW Middle Eastern Championship. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 along with The Von Erichs.
