On This Day In Pro Wrestling History – August 7, 2002

On this day in Pro Wrestling history in 2002, NWA-TNA PPV #8 took place.

This PPV is known for Ron “The Truth” Killings (a.k.a R-Truth in WWE) winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and becoming the first-ever, and to date only, recognized African-American NWA World Heavyweight Champion in history.

* Flying Elvises def. Amazing Red & The SAT
* NWA World Title match- Ron “The Truth” Killings def. Ken Shamrock to become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
* Dupp Cup Invitational Match: Bo Dupp vs. Ed Ferrera
* First Blood Match: Malice def. Don Harris

* NWA World Title – No. 1 Contenders Match: Jeff Jarrett def. Gran Apolo
* Miss TNA Evening Gown Match: Bruce def. Taylor Vaughn
* NWA TNA X-Division Title: Low Ki def. AJ Styles & Jerry Lynn to become the new NWA TNA X-Division Champion.

Ron Killings lost the title to Jeff Jarrett at NWA TNA PPV #21 on November 20, 2002. Jeff Jarrett would go on to successfully retain the title againt Ron Killings in a rematch at NWA TNA PPV #22.
