On this day in Pro Wrestling history in 1997, Raw Is War featured the WWF debut of Cactus Jack and the beginning of the historic feud between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin & Mr.McMahon, while WCW Nitro featured the debut of Goldberg.
Steve Austin delivered the stunner to Vince McMahon for the first time ever and he was arrested for that (kayfabe). This was WWF Raw’s debut at Madison Square Garden. Below are the results from the show:

Despite putting on a great show, WCW beat WWF in the TV ratings. WCW Nitro featured the debut of Goldberg. Goldberg defeated Hugh Morrus in his debut match and this was the first of the 173 consecutive victories which last for 15 months. Also on the show, Disco Inferno defeated Alex Wright to win the WCW World Television Title. Below are the results from Nitro:
