On this day in Pro Wrestling history on April 19, 1986, the World Wrestling Federation held an untelevised house show at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

• Old School Wrestling Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Today would have been the birthday of Old School Wrestling Legend Ox Baker (Real name: Douglas Baker Sr.).

Baker most famously competed in several different territories during his long, illustrious career, including the WWWF/WWF, NWA (JCP), AWA, NJPW, WCCW, GCW, CWF, CWA, AJPW, … & many more.

Those of you who didn’t see him in the ring during his professional wrestling career, will certainly remember him for his role in John Carpenter’s movie “Escape from New York”, where he was fighting Kurt Russell.

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (April 19, 2005) – Old School Wrestling Veteran Passed Away

On this day in 2005, we lost Old School Wrestling Veteran Silo Sam (Real name: John Harris) at the age of 52.

Standing 7ft 5in (billed as 7ft 7in), John Harris ranks #3 on the list of the tallest professional wrestlers ever, which can be seen here: https://wwfoldschool.com/the-11-tallest-pro-wrestlers-of-all-time/4/

Known as Silo Sam in Verne Gagne’s AWA (1986), he was known as Big John Harris on CWA Memphis Wrestling TV (1984-1985) and as Little John in Fritz Von Erich’s WCCW.

In 1987 he wrestled on untelevised WWF House Shows, but they didn’t end up hiring him.

Quite a lot of people remember him for chasing Pee-wee Herman because of a girl in the movie “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”.
